Default NO POWER ON ACCELERATION

I was pulling away from a redlight and heard a mild pop under the car. Tha air conditioning was running. I turned it off. I immediately noticed a lack of power, and a deep growl sound out of the car. I was able to reach my house which was approximately 3 miles away. When the car is in park I am able to press the accelerator and It sounds normal. When the car is in drive It lunges very bad and the RPM"s fluctuate up and down. I was able to restart the car when I got home. Was I in limp mode or does anyone know what is wrong? I did not have any warning lights orerror codes. All help is appreciated. Mstrplmber

Hey Tech I was a plumber, where are the intercooler hoses. I looked but the engine was hot and it is just about dusk. Do you have any pics of these hoses. Thanks mstrplmber

No I don't.
But start looking where the hose goes across the top of the engine.
Then it will go to the intercooler. Then look on the drivers side on the side of the radiator and you will see the pipe coming out of the intercooler going to the throttle body under the intake.

Trace the hoses good.

Hi Tech, I followed the hoses and the one from the drivers side going under the throttle body is loose at that point. I can't even see it or get my hands all the way around it. There is no clamp that I can feel. Will it hurt the car to drive it to a mechanic? I don't even have a clue on how to get to it. I can't even see it from under the car. Any suggestions? Mstrplmber

You should be fine driving it to the mechanic.
That should be the throttle body under the intake it is a pita to get to.

Hi TechI had the throttle body replaced about 3 months ago. What causes that to pop loose, and Is it secured with a worm screw clamp? Thanks mstrplmber

Yes it is held in with a clamp.
Maybe they didn't have the hose seated all the way or the clamp wasn't tight enough.

The dealer I took the car to for the throttle body is approximately 30 miles away. Is it OK to drive it that far. In your opinion was that the last time that clamp was touched. I had no other work done on the car. What happened to the site yesterday. It just dissappeared!!! Thanks mstrplmber

+1 on a leak in the charge pipes.
+1 on the clamp to the TB probably being the location.

You might buy a clamp at your local parts store for $1.50, put it on and see if that corrects the problem before shelling out a ton on dealer diagnostic fees.

I'd check the car while running and LISTEN for air leaks. At idle it will sound like a suction noise. That might help you find the culprit.
Also check around for smaller vacuum hoses that might have popped off. Although they usually won't make you loose boost, you'lloftensee a fluxuation in the rpms.

Hey Tech thanks for the advice you were 100% correct. Volvo fixed the hose at no cost because It was their error from when they replaced the throttle body less than 2 months ago. Thanks again Mstrplmber
