Greetings, I have a 2001 s60. I have the same brake light issue as the OP in the post here:

Does anyone know which relay in the trunk is for the lower brake lights? My center (rear window) brake light works and the lower brake lights don't work. Fuses, bulbs, etc, ok....

I got it! Thanks to the good info in previous threads on this site, I was able to get to the bottom of this. It was indeed the brake light relay in the trunk. I wiggled the relay and the brake lights flickered. I put another relay, the one for the rear head rest actuator and installed it in the brake light relay socket. All is good. I opened the old relay for the brake lights and the contacts are bad.
