Default PLastic **** on passenger seat headrest

Hi-

I have a random question and was hoping someone could help me out. I drive a 2005 S60R and I brought it to the dealership for the 52,000 check up...long story short I drove a loaner for the day an XC90 Ocean Drive edition. I noticed while driving the XC90 a tan **** on the left side of the passenger seat headrest. I've noticed it in my car as well, but never thought anything of it...just one of those things you don't know what it does. So since it was top of mind while in the dealership today, I asked, "what is the purpose of the **** on the seat?" The gentleman called his service tech (the master mechanic as he put it) and to my surprise they did not know.

Can anyone out there tell what purpose the **** on the left side of the passenger seat headrest serves? It's only on the left side, not the right, nor is it on either side of the drivers side headrest...please help it's driving me nuts!!

This stumped google!

Thanks for any help.

I thought that only the drivers seat had them on the L/S and it was part of the Hands free Cell phone system they had that could be attached to it.

But if it is on the passenger side im not sure then.

My 2003 S80 has one too (passenger seat, left side of headrest) and I have no clue either.

I checked my owners manual, 2006, S60 and found that the high tech "****" is listed as a -coat hanger.

Like others, I have ALWAYS wondered what purpose it serves. It isn't really large enough to hang anything on. If it is a hanger of some type...what an odd place to put one.

Things that make you go "hmmmmm...."

Does it have a push-in/pop-out feature?

nope, it doesn`t, I have it on my passenger seat in our XC90, and on my deskchair of a V50. on the deskchair it serves the purpose of a coathanger ****/button perfectly. but in the car, it does some of can block the view of the driver a wee bit if you hang something there. specially if you are a tall person, and you have kids in the back who have long legs. the passengers seat goes forward then. so yeah, personally, I wouldn`t use it for a coathanger.
