Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 2001 Volvo S60 T5. I bought it not running and I need some insight on helping get it going. The car will start an idle sometimes but when you press the gas pedal it does nothing. And other times it'll start and shut right back off but if you press the gas pedal it will stay at idle speed and the highest it will go is around 1,100 RPMs. I can hear the fuel pump kicking on so I don't think it's the fuel pump however when I press the check valve on the fuel rail it sprays out but not very much. I am going to buy a throttle pedal accelerator sensor tomorrow to try that and see if it works. But before I go through with it I would like some input to see if I'm making the right steps to try to get it going. Please help me! And thank you in advance. It has 148,000 mi on it. Also it has a new alternator, mass air sensor, battery, air filter, I'm not sure where to go from here someone pretty please help me this is my only vehicle at the moment and I got a new job and I need it to get back and forth to work.
I don't think it would be best to throw parts at it. I wouldn't buy that sensor. First thing to do would be to scan it for fault codes and see what comes up. If you can, check every module on the car, not just CELs.
A 2001 t5 uses the all will fail Magnetti Maerelli (sp) throttle module.
Your first step would be to scan all the control units with a compatible scanner. That scanner will be able to test the throttle module and throttle also. Then develop a reasonable, rational diagnostic process. For instance if you get no clues from your scan, test the fuel pressure (with an actual gauge!)
If you are not familiar with those throttle modules - (those are "coded" tp the VIN of the car) - this company offers a quality product.

I have replaced a couple of throttle pedals, and many 99-02 throttle modules. So don't waste your $$ on a throttle pedal as a guess - your "repairs" will get very expensive using the guess, buy, get more frustrating method.
If you don't have access to a proper scan tool (not the $19 obd only version!) It will be cheaper in the long run to pay someone to solve your throttle module problem (if that's what is needed)

Light reading (should download as a PDF) this is Xemodex's diagnostics flow chart for said wonky ETM...
