Default Question HELP... turning off message/warning lights

HELP... turning off message/warning lights
Car: Volvo S60, 2005.... My new but maybe soon-to-be old mechanic said he could "fix" the warning lights from staying on. He could not do it, apparently. I've already paid him a bunch of money to fix other things he found wrong -- some really were, but some I'm not sure. All I know is that those dashboard panel warning lights are still on. "Check Engine" "Brake Failure - stop carefully" "ABS" "Service Engine"... etc. They come on and off.

Now the new (?) guy says I'll need to take it to a Volvo dealer to get it fixed. l$$$$$$$$ OR, he says to get them to diagnose the problem and then come back and he'll fix it if I buy the parts (no labor charge)...

Can any of y'all help me???
