I want to completely remove the alarm system. It's 14 yo and doesn't work anyway. I don't want to pay $300 for another siren module or restore the alarm system to functionality at all. I'm getting the dash message "Alarm System Service Required", and I'm just enough OCD that that appearing every time I crank the car drives me crazy. Is there a way to remove the alarm system and never get the message?
So far, I have removed the alarm siren module from in front of the passenger side front tire, and I've removed the 5A alarm fuse from the panel above the driver's feet. The computer apparently wants an OK signal from the alarm system because it still shows the dash message. Does anyone know any way to remove the alarm check from the computer or to trick the computer into thinking the alarm system is ok? Anything to stop the dash message?
Stopped by dealership this morning. They say they can do an "alarm delete" function, but I have to buy the software, almost like a part order. That's some bullsh1t there. It's a dealership, why don't they have the software? So, for several hundred or a few thousand dollars, I could stop the message. No thanks, I'll just live with it.
Does anyone know the nature of the "alarm system ok" signal to the computer? Is it digital information? Is it resistance? Is it a simple closed contact? Other? I can simulate resistance or a closed contact.
I would love to get rid of the alarm and message, but I'm not installing a new $300 alarm or paying hundreds or thousands of dollars to do so. Thanks
Yes, It's probably something like the "alarm remove" software below. The software is a download using a VIDA subscription and compatible Dice unit. Same as the process needed when replacing many modules in your car. The software is tailored for each car by VIN before it is installed - (just like many modules are coded to the VIN in the car.)
Thanks. That looks like what I'm after. However, I don't see prices. Do you see how much the Alarm remove package is? I'm looking at a short subscription, the cost of this Alarm remove, and the DiCE device. It's getting expensive.
3 day subscription/$~70, software/$~30, Compatible Dice unit/$70-$500, (if you can get the clone Dice unit to work, if not VDASH might have a solution to be able to use your clone dice) .
Of course you won't know that until after you purchase a 3 day VIDA subscription and try to get your possibly non-compatible DICE unit to work. Then you have to learn how to operate the VIDA software. (there's no human help line - when I had a problem you emailed them and waited, waited, waited, for a response - hoping the solution would come BEFORE your 3 day subscription ran out!)
Unfortunately - it's cheaper to just replace the bad siren module if you don't want to deal with the message!
Ok, so, minimum $200, maybe $600, to kill an annoying message; and it's not a guarantee. Unless someone chimes in with a method to trick the computer, I think I'll just have to deal with the message. Thanks for your response and the info.
