Default S60 Rear Brakes not working

I have an 06 S60 FWD and I recently discovered that my rear brakes were not working at all. I loosened the bleeder valve on the caliper but no fluid came out. I decided to disconnect the brake line to my caliper and I was surprised to see no fluid came out of the hose even when I pumped the brakes. It is the same situation for both rear brakes. I made sure to check the brake lines that run from the master cylinder to the rear brakes for any kinks or damage but they looked fine. I was thinking I may have a gunked up combination valve but I can't research anything about combination valves in my Volvo. Someone please help me so I don't have to drive with half my brakes working.

sounds like the valve in the ABS system is stuck closed. I had a similar issue with my 00 S40 and wound up replacing the ABS valve body. I think I paid $75 used from a recycle yard then had my shop install, flush the lines and bleed the system.

Did the ABS valve body have to be programmed after replacement? Or was it as simple as replacing the part and bleeding the brakes?

on mine was the component where the lines tap into - the ABS controller (electronics/solenoid) attaches to it. It was as simple as replacing the part and bleeding the brakes. Side note, on some models you can drive with the ABS controller removed - you just don't have ABS, so you could test by disconnecting.

Sweet, Thank you for all this information. Im also assuming that you took the original ABS controller off and put it on the new unit from the junkyard with no complications?

Also if you have a picture of the ABS Valve Body can you please attach it, What I believe you replaced is what I attached to this message circled in green.

yep thats the control module on the left, the control unit in the middle and the pump on the right. I see 3 different part numbers for the control unit + pump from Volvo (one is for cars without tracs/dynamic stability etc, the others are for cars with tracs/dynamic/stability) so best to see if you can see a part number on your car before shopping. Note I saw Tasca sells this new for $1500!!! but used on ebay are closer to $75. I'd probably talk to the dealer to confirm if you keep your existing control module but replace the pump and control unit (ie part # 30793490) whether programming is required.
