S60 T5 axle removal
2001 S60 2.3T, manual, does anyone have any tips on removing the drivers side axle? i was replacing the control arm and end links and noticed that the inner joint on the half shaft is shot.
how do i remove it from the transmission? i already have the spindle off.
thanks

I have never done a driver's side and never done a manual so take this for what it is worth. Vadis shows the axle basically pulling out of the trans the same as the passenger side. Vadis also shows a Jimmy tool that slides up under the axle at what looks like where the axle mates into the transmission. I am assuming this is to help pry the axle out straight or get it started coming out.
It is noted to pull on the cv joint itself and not the drive shaft joints when removing the shaft. For re-installation lube up the mating end w/wheel bearing grease and slide it back in. You should be able to tell when its seated properly, it is also suggested to tug a little at the CV joint to be sure the axle is locked in.

The picture I looked at does show what appears to be a split ring type clip, there is no mention of removing this clip, just basically pulling the axle out. For the re-install it mentions verifying the axle is locked in, so I am assuming once the axle is out you will see some type of groove where the clip lock in once re-installed.
