I have had this problem for a while and I finally have had enough and I want to get to the bottom of it. In the info panel on the left of my instrument panel says "driver door open" when it is obviously closed and secure. because the car thinks the door is open the dome light stays on and of course there is the annoying ding ding noise. Does this sound like the door latch? I hope its something that I might be able to replace myself but opening up the door panel with all the electronics has me a little nervous

 

Probably a bad switch or wiring gone bad. The switch should be behind the the rubber boot at the front of the door. Test with voltmeter or test light. If faulty, use a cross type, unscrew the switch and replace.
