S60 Torque Steer?
Hi guys... I've got an 04 S60 (non-turbo) with 168k. It has new struts, strut mounts, strut plates, axles, stabilizer links, new tires, and a 4 wheel alignment. However, I'm still having issues with torque steer. Under acceleration, the wheel is straight and it doesn't pull at all. When it's not under heavy acceleration it pulls a bit to the left and the wheel is to the right somewhat. I know these are known for some torque steer, but this is pretty significant. The one thing I'm noticing that might be amplifying the problem is the control arm bushing. The rubber appears to be torn on the right arm. Could this be causing it? Have any of you had any experience fixing this issue?
Control arm bushings are very common. You can remove the arms and bring them to a machine shop to press them out and press the new ones in. If you are not a DIYer, it is usually cheaper to replace the whole arm, and I would recommend both sides.
my ball joints on my control arm are shot as well as nearly every bushing and this is doing somewhat similar to what you are experiencing. replace the control arm and maybe it will fix both problems. My inner tie rods are bad as well which is shown by being able to turn the wheel/rim by hand and watching the tie rod go in and out. FCP has a kit with lots of goodies for about 300 which contains new control arms, and nearly every bushing component needed to make suspension firm except inner tie rods.
My steering is so bad that if you just touch the gas a little, it will jerk over and start turning one way and I will need to readjust the steering until I do not need to be on the gas anymore in which case it will lurch back to driving straight.
