Welcome to the forum. Have your friend join the forum as well. Since we can then speak directly to him about this info.

1. I suggest you do a little searching on this forum. There is a thread in the General Volvo section titled VolvoForums Resources Thread. In that thread you will find a lot of info. Mainly links, however it will take you to the info you and your friend seek. There is a direct link for that thread in my signature.

2. I suggest your friend completes what is called STAGE ZERO. This can also be found in the thread I mentioned above.

I just looked at the two best ECU tuners and I couldn't find anything for the 03 s60R. However that doesn't mean nothing is available from these two tuners. IPD USA ( ipdusa.com) and RICA (Can be bought from Viva Performance). Give these guys a call both places that is.

Another good ECU tuner is BSR. However I don't see anything from them for the 03 R. Again that doesn't mean they can't tune his car. EST (EuroSportTuning) sells the BSR systems and I would call them and ask if they got something for the 03 R's.

You could also look into the cheaper ECU companies like Upsolute, SpeedTuning USA, Inmotion.

Well now we have options...

1. BSR PPC ( http://www.eurosporttuning.ca/Mercha...Code=VL-S60-en )
"PPC® - The Optimal OBD Tuning System
Now you don’t have to remove the computer from your vehicle to have it upgraded! With the PPC® (Portable Program Carrier) a unique hand held tuning system allows your cars ECU (Electronic Control Unit) to be reprogrammed with tuning software via the OBD-II port. Just plug in PPC® tuning system in your car’s diagnostic port, press a button and the tuned program is easily installed after a few minutes. If the need to reverse the programming exists, the original can be recalled just as fast."

"

Benefits of the PPC: [ol][*]Now you do not have to be without a car for 3-4 days while you ship your ECU away to be programmed and hope that the shipping company does not lose your package![*]Free software upgrades which you can download into the PPC system via your home computer. Other company may require that you remove the computer and ship it to them again for upgrades.[*]Allows you to flash your cars stock program back into the ECU when you have to bring your vehicle in to the dealer for warranty work.[*]Different stage programs available to match the parts installed on your vehicle.[*]Highest hp and torque gains on most models (More information about hp and torque gains under the respective car year and model)." [/ol]"

3. RICA ( http://www.vivaperformance.com/catal...roducts_id=344 )
" The Art Of Chip Tuning.

RICA Engineering is a company that specializes in modifying the standard software stored in the engine control unit (ECU). There are several sensors in the car (intake temperature sensor, throttle position sensor, rpm sensor, etc) which send information to the ECU. Based on this input, the ECU calculates the output sent to the fuel injection system, ignition system and turbo. The software in the ECU is responsible for the performance characteristics of the engine.

RICA software tuning will optimize or upgrade the standard ECU parameters, such as ignition timing, fuel injection settings and turbo pressure levels. The result is a more efficient engine with higher performance characteristics.

The development of our software tuning is based on extensive testing on the most common Volvo models and engine configurations on the state-of-the-art MAHA dynamometer. RICA software tuning also accounts for the limitations of the driveline components in the car (turbo, gearbox, engine).

Your original ECU will be professionally modified. This can be done via the diagnostics system of the car via OBD-2 (all 1999+ models), or by physically reading and reprogramming the EPROM that stores the software mapping.

We also exclusively offer software remaps, in case you perform additional performance upgrades after your RICA software remap purchase."

*Please click the links I provided for each website. As the information might be hard to read in the thread.

The three ECU tuners I posted about are the best of the best when it comes to Volvo ECU tuning. These are the three most recommened tuners I will give your friend.

The other cheaper ECU tuners I told you about are ok, but come no where near the three I posted about.
