Default Stereo question regarding cd player...

I'm wondering if anyone has an answer for this...

I've got an '04 S60 with the HU-613 stereo. The cd player hasn't worked since I bought the car in the summer. It doesn't seem to spin up and just reports a disk error whenever I try to get a disk playing. I've tried dozens of cd's.

So, I purchased a complete HU-613 from a wrecker. It is a different colour and I don't want to just try a swap and end up paying a fortune to have the new stereo normalized with a download.

What I'm considering is to just swap out the cd head unit from the replacement stereo. Anyone done this before? Any issues arise? Do I need to code the stereo with this sort of fix?

It is probably designed as an entire unit and you might have to just change the entire thing, because of connections.

I had the same problem on my HU-613. I had considered replacing mine until I tried a lens cleaner disc. I ran the disc 6 or 7 times to make sure it cleaned it thoroughly. It works great now, with cd-r and regular albums. I know its a little late now but I would try using one on your original unit.

Actually, I have already tried the lens cleaner fix. The problem seems to be that the cd doesn't spin up to speed, at all. I can hear the read head moving, so I have to assume the drive for the cd is at fault. Hence the replacement idea. At the very least, I get to take apart an HU-613 in my dining room and see how it is built...

Did you check recalls? I kinda remember something about the stereos in the recall of my 2002 S60 where it was defective and needed to replaced as a whole.

Hmmm...I hadn't thought of recalls. I did just pick the car up from the dealership, this morning, on an unrelated issue, and assume that they would have automatically looked for such things. However, I'll check into it.

Merci...

One advise in the last situation in which u are replacing the whole stereo unit. Make sure outer panel is the same colour and a software will be needed to reloaded to the system in order for the network of the the vehicle function properly. hope that helps
