Default temp gauge problem

so i just picked up a 2008 s60 about a month and a half ago....and i have recently been noticing something strange with the temp gauge
for the past month and a half as im driving im watching the temp gauge and the needle is in the middle...now for the past week i have been noticing the temp gauge is all the way down (on the cold side) and not moving up at all...ever....now the temperatures outside have started getting warmer where i live so im wondering if this is normal.....any input?

My initial guess is a bad Engine Coolant Temp sensor or combination ECT sensor and thermostat. Should be covered under warranty. Someone else concur?
