Default Throttle stuck above 1500RPM

Hi,

I was driving my 2006 s60 2.4 D5 at about 70mph on the motorway, with cruise control on. I had to break pretty sharply, and it immediately felt like something was wrong. As I drove back I figured it out - the car wants to maintain a minimum of 1500RPM, in any gear, and idling. The cruise control 'on' light disappeared, and now none of the four cruise control buttons work (the main cruise off/on button does work)

So in third gear, for example, the car accelerates to whatever 1500RPM gives.

Any ideas for anything simple I can do. I'm not great with cars, so appreciate any simple instructions.

many thanks
Dave

Looks like this fixed itself overnight. Maybe a stuck cable or something?
