Default Towing capacity of 2020/2021 T5 and T6

A couple of years ago I was contemplating purchasing a V60 and noticed a discrepancy from I think it was between the 2019 model year and 2020 in terms of towing capacity. In 2019, if I recall correctly, the V60 had something like 3500 pounds, whereas the 2020 was down around 1600 or 2000 lbs. Realizing that a recently acquired 2017 Subaru cross trek is not the right car for me (acquired at low cost!), I'm back to reconsidering a V60, and looking at either the 2020 or 2021 model years. I was expecting to see a difference in towing capacity between the T5 versus the T6 given that the latter has significantly more power. Yet that does not seem to be the case. So I'm curious if anyone on this form has any insight into what changed between 2019 and 2020, and why in general it seems like the V60 is not a good vehicle for towing anything of significant weight?
