i have the 02 s60 and the tranny was replaced at a local shop by the previous owner one year ago.
I'm guessing the software was updated as the dealer says you can't change a tranny withouth updating the software.
Also, I know the issue with the 01 02 models was the neutral-on-stop feature and mine stays in gear when at a stop light(car moves if you release the brake withouth touching the accelerator).
Is this enough proof that the software is updated?
Dealer won't be cheap on updated i'm guessing??
thanks!

having had the transmission replaced a year ago by a local shop does not mean much.
If they used the wrong fluid the transmission will fail shortly. Also, any time major transmission work is done, you have to reset the tranny adaptives and do a drive cycle. This was not done by the local shop, only dealer, and will also lead to tranny failure shortly after if it was not done.

damn!! i do get shift flares from 3rd to 4th from time to time and the "usual" jolts from park to reverse when parking.
The oil was checked by the dealer in December and by a local shop today and they said the oil is in good shape but i'm guessing they won't be able to check if it's the right one.
could you recomend what type of tranny oil would be best and what kind of flush should be done? i've been looking for info and found a lot of opinions on what's the best way to flush the fluid..
hope it's not too late for my tranny! wish i knew more about these sensitive volvo trannys before

Here has the best deal on the AW tranny fluid:
Mobil ATF 3309 Case of 12 quarts
Go to IPD and get the flush kit before you do this job (or make your own tube extension like I did).
Once you've flushed the tranny fluid, go get your tranny update if necessary. Don't get the update then change the fluid. When resetting the drive cycle, fresh fluid helps the tranny adapt better than old fluid. Some have said getting the update first then flushing down the road has caused tranny failure. I flush my tranny every 30k and (knocks on wood) has shifted perfectly.

the brain_3000 I just had my '01 Volvo S60 updated at the Volvo dealer and it was free! The update will remove the stop neutral feature if it hasn't already been removed.
I had my transmission rebuilt recently, by a transmission specialist. It is still clunking when slowing down and accelerating around corners. But I have yet to replace the transmission torque mount, which the mechanic thinks may be the culprit. Volvo's said the ETM was working as designed, which can sometimes cause problems too.
Question: Should I replace the transmission torque mount with Polyurethane version or the original rubber kind? Anybody had experience with this?
Also too I guess I need to go back to Volvo and reset the transmission adaptives and do a drive cycle.

I'm dropping off the car next week for a tranny flush and a engine mount replacement(which seemed to be broken and causing jolts when stopping etc..).
after the tranny flush it's straight to the dealer for a software update and driving cycle hopefully this will eliminate all the problems noticed so far.
i asked the local shop to get me the correct tranny fluid(mobil 3309) is there anything else i should specify about the way it should be flushed? I heard the dealer is expensive so i'm doing what i can far from their greedy hands..
local shop will charge me little money for it and they say their auto tranny specialists but i'd still like to give some pointers if you guys know some when flushing this tranny.
