I Know this discution is more about newer volvo but I have 1 question about an older volve. I have a 1995 850 turbo with a AW 50-42 LE transmision. The manual calls for Dextron II(E). I keep hearing about Mobile 3309 bui I don`t see any in my auo parts store. I do see the Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF. Would this exceed the Dextron and the 3309? Is it ok to use the mobil 1 synthetic? I realy don`t want to damage the trany. To expensive to repair

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE put Mobil 3309 into your car if the car specifies Dex II. On the other hand, the Mobil1 Synthetic is compatible with the vehicle, but so is the Mobil Dexron VI. The dex will be cheaper as it isnt full synthetic like the mobil 1. It's just a matter of how much you are willing to spend on the atf.

Mommass60, I just acquired a 2001 S60 2.4T and have noticed that the automatic transmission does hard shifting. I am a Nigerian and therefore do not have access to a lot of alternatives as I definitely cannot find the Volvol transmission fluid recommended. I am making effort to find the Mobil 3309 but so far without success. In the light of this situation, could you please oblige me with the alternatives you have discovered meet the same spec as the Volvo fluide or the Mobil 3309. I respect that you do not want to make your finding public so I will suggest you send me a private email to goodluck_atogwe@yahoo.com.

Thanks in advance for your wonderful assistance.

I think that the toyota transmission fluid is the same as the Volvo transmission fluid. AKA Mobil 3309

I called the local Napa shop for the Mobil 3309 and they quoted me over $119 for 12 quarts. I ordered from the avlube link suggested on page 10(ist) and even with shipping it's only costing me $83.70. Highly recommend buying online.

My 2001 Volvo S60 is showing "Low Battery Voltage", can anyone tell me what is responsible for this and how I can rectify the problem?

You should post your question as a new posting, not under this transmission topic.

Default Back on track...

Here's some info for Canadians...

Canadian Tire stocks Mobil 1 T-3309 for $31.99/gal. $7.99/litre. I picked up 3 large jugs yesterday to get the T5 ready for another summer of turbo fun.

An aside...

During the winter storage of the T5, the battery froze and popped one side of the casing. Now I'm flushing the battery compartment with baking soda to neutralize the battery acid that spilled. I wish the battery tray would just pop out! There was only one cell that leaked, but I'd rather keep the area clean and dry.

Decided to go with Amsoil Synthetic ATF for my s80 with the GM tranny. Dropped the pan, changed the pan filter, did the coolant hose flush as described on IPD's website and then installed a Magnefine In-Line magnetic filter...

The kit I used for the flush from the radiator was homemade (plus I bought a new rad hose clip for $5).. wasnt hard at all... but I can tell you that dropping the pan and trying to fit the new filter on was something of a nightmare.. so beware...

Default 2001 S60 tranny Drain plug?

I know the 2003 S40 has a tranny drain plug, but does the 2001 S60 have one? I don't think so... can anyone confirm this? Any Photos? Thanks

well cas, that is also what I did after droppin the pan, but doing the pan was the only way to get to the pan filter.. the truth is, all of the things which come in that kit are worth only about $10, if you have extra cash to spare for $25+ Shipping, its fine, but I just bought the clip from another site and bought the hose at an industrial supply place I know..
i went with 1/2 hose as well, fit much easier than the reccomended 3/8"

I can confirm that the 2001 S60 does has a drain plug but you have to remove the plastic cover underneath the engine compartment in order to have access to the drain plug. Goodluck.

new to the forum. bought a nice S60 2.4T with 150,000 kms in toronto. Flushed the Transmission with a buddy at his shop. Put in Amsoil ATF. flushed again a week later as was described by the forum and might have put a little too much fluid.
when cold and NOT running...reads way over the hot and cold level marks....when hot and have taken a run and put in Park and let idle and pull out dipstick it is absolutely at perfect level right at "hot" mark.
Will it hurt Transmission if a "little" bit overfilled??
Should I just worry about level after driving and while in park idling...at that point Trans dipstick like I said shows perfect....
please help....

You check the fluid with it running and hot after driving about 15 or 20 minutes. Then is should red right at the hot mark. If it is over full drain some out. Overfilled is not good for the tranny.

Because the fluid is not moving through the system. Once it if flowing the level drops.

I have done 2 flushes with Amsoil ATF now as well as went with a 5W40 Synthetic oil for the motor after 155,000kms of regular old Volvo shop Dino oil. Shifting nicely and probably will do one more flush in 10,000kms at next oil change. Shifting smooth as buttah....Was gonna do the 3309 from Mobil for transmission but Amsoil Synthetics do have a good rep and I decided to give em a try for the first time.
Does anybody know of a person with really big original miles on one of these transmissions??
