Default amsoil

…flush with Amsoil ATF so frequently? I replaced it once and it seems to be working just fine for 2 years already … going to keep it for 1-3 more years. I am surprised that after 2 years with amsoil ATF, the fluid does not have discoloration.

By the way amsoil expands and contracts a little bit more then the fluid recommended by Volvo. When it is cold 30F I do not have it on the deep stick, when it comes to normal temperature(hot) it is there in upper hot spot of the dip stick. Be careful with overfilling because of properties of the fluid.

…just got xc70 2006 going to install amsoil there as well.

I used to flush my Aisin Warner transmission in a 1994 Lexus with a BG Transmission flush machine, using Toyota fluid (OE). I understand this is the OE fluid for both that and the AW in the S60. Thanks to this forum, I continued reading about transmission fluid here: http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...l_ATF_3309.asp

Perry

btw, I have also used the amsoil product in other vehicles, and like it very much.

4 speed auto use dexron/mercon

5-6 speed auto use JWS 3309

reference - alldata, owners manual, and VIDAS

Just purchased a 2008 S60 2.5T with 31K on it for the wife. I'm a Chevrolet man and have always done my own maintenence, so the Volvo scares me a little because I don't know much about it. I've been reading some on here and it seems that the tranny is the biggest potential issue with this car. I have changed tranny fluid and filters on many 4L60E's and will be doing this one (5 speed Geartronic) with the Mobil 3309 fluid. Is it true that there is no servicable filter on this tranny? How often should I change the fluid in the pan? I'm thinking every other oil change (15K or so) draining the fluid in the pan and refilling it. I don't want to do a flush, whether I pay someone or do it myself...I'd rather do the drain and refill. Doing it every 15K should keep relatively new fluid in it all the time, right? Thoughts?

It is a good conservative way to introduce new additives every 15k (mobile 3309 is a good choice as well)
I think flush is more appropriate during synthetic installations…

May I suggest you look into putting a magnefine in-line filter on the atf cooler line if you are planning to do a fliush.. this is the easiest way to keep the fluid clean without having to drop the pan to change the filter (if it can be done on the s60.. I know my s80 can)..

but look into it, for the price you cant go wrong

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...BUCI%26otn%3D2

Let scott hook you up, I bought a pair of these, one for trans, one for power steering and am 100% happy about the purchase...

I do not know if it was addressed to me or not. I will answer it anyway…The s60 transmission does not have a filter but it might have a screen. It could have a small magnet already imbedded as well (just a speculation as I could not find any metal particles with magnet after the flush).

The magnetic filter for s60 sounds like “overkill” but could be useful if you were to cut and extend the transmission lines… it is so easy to flush it already I just do not know if it would make sense.

If my previous posts caused confusion… yes I use amsoil in S60 AW transmission and have my own reasons for that. (I do not recommend it for conservative members of the forum, please use M 3309)

XC70 2006 and amsoil ATF:
- Replaced brown oil with red (this time it took 14q during the flush)

- Shifts well, very good test results in manual mode(better than expected)
High RPMs “pedal to the metal” acceleration
Barely making shifting point acceleration (up to the hill)
Drop from 5th gear to 2nd at 40-50 miles per hour (with and without “pedal to the metal” mode)

- S60 and xc70 with synthetic ATF fluids now

To make it controversial these are the results from XC forum…. just wondering now if that guy used amsoil?!

Yes friction modifiers are important as well as temperature stability and viscosity… amsoil reps are saying that ATF is slippery is it because they use friction modifiers in every fluid?

Need some expert advice here:
I have a 2001 s60, 109k miles, bought it at 85k miles, I have never changed the trans. fluid and very much doubt the previous owner did since volvo doesn't specifically say so (the car was dealer serviced, warrantied, right up until when I bought it).

I really want this car to last another 2 years (or about 20-25k miles). Right now, my transmission is performing just fine, very smooth, no noise etc... but I have no idea what the condition of the fluid is, as the dipstick has broken. I am about to purchase a replacement dipstick to check the fluid.

My question is if I see it is pretty dark, should I risk changing it? I have read a lot about the cases where with high mileage, suddenly changing the fluid can blow the transmission... So my options are to hope the trans. lasts another 25k miles in its present state or change the fluid to ensure it does but risk blowing it by changing it... What should I do??

I would drain what's in the pan and refill with the Mobil 3309...and would continue to do this about every oil change. Definately don't do a flush...that will probably send your tranny into oblivion.

Where is the drain plug for 04 S60 non-turbo? Funny, I called the dealership and they said it does not have a drain plug but has a drain pan connected with 4 bolts. They then said something about removing the bolt that looks like it may be one will destroy the tranny?!?! Anyone have some awesome photos or can give me a detailed description on where this thing is?

I don't know where your based, but I just had my Transmission flushed by Dartford Transmissions, it cost Ł150, they hook it up to a machine to flush and fill the system. The car is very smooth since.

Did a simple drain using the drain bolt ,obviously, and 4 quarts came out!! All the reports on here say that only 2.5 to maybe 3 quarts come out on a drain......any reason this may have happened for me? I could see a quarter of a quart here and there but a full quart from what people have said seems like a lot.

Default Resetting Gearbox Fluid Change Counter

I hope this is the right thread for my question.
The transmission fluid in my 2006 s60 was dark brown so I flushed it with about 12 quarts of Mobil 3309 oil. VADIS states that the gearbox fluid change counter must be reset after this operation.
Does anyone know what negative effects, if any, can occur when a tranny flush is performed without also resetting the gearbox fluid change counter? Also, is there a way to reset this counter other than by using the VCT2000?

Thanks

It will not affect performance at all.
Not way to reset it without the VCT2000 and one of the programs.

Great thread on trans fluids. My radiator just went on my 99' V70 GLT and when I get the trans lines disconnected, I plan on doing a flush. The wagon has had the trans flushed three times at 22K, 51K, and 78K. The milage is now at 114K and the trans shifts fine, but want to keep it in good shape. What fluid is best (I know Volvo recommends their fluid) and how do I remove the lines from the old radiator? It uses green clips. Thanks in advance

Dave

squeeze the sides of the clips and pull it straight out... you can buy those clips from any of the volvo sites online in case you manage to crack one ...

I have a pretty extensive writeup on the s80 forum about that whole radiator line transmission flush deal..
I am not 100% sure but I think your car uses Mobil 3309 (aka volvo fluid...) check your manual and see what it says,,

Lines came out as described - very easy. Thanks for the tip. Dealer said DexronIII or Mercon on the trans fluid. I am still going to check the manual though. Take care
