Transmission Flush
Hi all
I am new to this forum but have been around reading info and stuff for the past year or so. Anyway I have a 2002 Volvo S60 2.4T geartronic. i ve done a few mods on the vehicle and its going awesome. I bought car last year at 50 000kms and have done 68000kms so far. I sent it in for a 50k service last year and also requested to tranny oil to changed / flushed and software uploaded to disable that annoying neutral control story. Had a look at the invoice a year later and the trans oil volvoused was part number 1161521, the grey bottle with pink label. Got me thinking hey this is basic dextron 3 oil, and the shifts on the car was okay, but engagement and disengagement of gears was slightly on the harsh side ir R D N P. I contact Volvo again, and they assured me that use that oil and theres nothing to worry about . I the did all the reading up on the net and check the manuals ect and off couse 116-1540 was the right oil , so I called Volvo again and they quoted me an outrangeous price for the oil of R180 zar for 1 liter , and off course you need 12 liters for a full flush so we looking ar R2430 zar vat incl oil alone. Thats madness.
Being an Asin Warner Aw55-50sn , I read that a jws 3309 spec oil is needed, and unfortunatley here in south africa I cannot source that oil. On the mobil site they mention that this oil is also recomended for the lexus as well which uses toyota type IV. Went down to my local toyota dealership and bought the oil for R140 for 4liters , which worked out to R420 zar for 3 of them.
I changed the oil 2 weeks ago, I must say its BRILLIANT stuff, the shifts are smoother, engaging of the gears are perfect and at low speeds "dunno if im imagining stuff" its seems the gears hold at low speeds 40-80kph instead of upchanging and bogging the motor.
People if you are are having difficulties sourcing a 3309 spec oil , I would highly recommend Toyota Type IV. Its priced right and it works awesome
Regards
