Volvo S60 2.4 2004
HI,
I HAVE A vOLVO s60 2.4 2004.
Its winter time here in Montreal and i am wondering about a certain button i have near my transmission. The "w" button.
I read the manual but still not too clear, can someone pls explain this button.
In the manual is describes this "W" button for "winter\wet driving mode-enhanced vehicle traction. This mode may be selected for starting\moving off on slippery road.
*My question is do i leave this button on while driving during the winter ?
thank you.
i have attached a picture.

the W stands for winter/wet
any time its wet or snowy you can (and in my opinion should) use this option
basically, when you come to a stop (such as a traffic light) and you begin to press the gas, the car will engage the brakes and over a period of 3 seconds or so, it will slowly let off the brake pressure. that way no matter how hard you mash on the gas, you will (should) never simply spin your tires. great for easy driving, bad when entering the highway from a stop when you don't realize you accidently bumped it! lol O_O

Winter mode is selected using the (W) button on the top panel of the gear selector assembly. Winter mode enables starting off in a high gear to prevent the wheels from spinning on a slippery surface. This mode can also be used in other difficult situations in which the driver needs more direct control over gear selection. Lock-up can be engaged in 1st and 2nd gear. The shifting pattern is optimised to minimize the number of shifts. Depending on the gear position, the following combinations can be obtained:
-D The car starts in 2nd gear. Automatic shifting between 2nd and 3rd gears occurs earlier than in Economy mode, D position
-3 The car starts in 2nd gear. 4th gear is locked out
-2 The car starts in 2nd gear. There is no up shifting or downshifting
-1 The car starts in 1st gear. There is no up shifting or downshifting.
The W lamp on the dashboard lights when winter mode is selected.
If kick-down is activated in Winter mode, the gearbox uses all gears for maximum performance.
