Volvo S60 2013 2.5T from USA
Hello at the start, im from Poland so sorry for my english.
2 weeks ago my Volvo started to making me problems.
There is problem with starting, on cold engine after few hours staiyng im place i cannot start engine.
On 1st try Volvo wont event start, just make some engine speed
2 and 3 try Volvo start but i'm 2/3 second my car turn off.
4 try always start, but some problems with engine speed in first 10 secnds, after that everything works normal, and when im riding i didint got Any problems with engine, but my obd2 program says my engine got misfire on few cylinders, not just one.
My friend told me i need to refuel fully, and IT would work normal, i LPG on my car so IT was alayws fuel in 1/2 1/3 of gas. And full LPG.
ITo its possible that refuel gas will repair my problem? And what can cause it?
Sorry for english, and im counting on answers, have a nice day.
best regards
Lukasz

Your gas is probably not the issue. Possibly related to spark. Check spark plugs, coil wiring, coils themselves. Car needs to be scanned to see where the misfire is, you can start by swapping coils from the coded cylinder to another, clear the code, start it and see if the codes moves with the coil. Spark plugs are a maintenance item that can all be replaced, especially if they are all original on your car.

If you are sure on getting spark, next step is air, fuel or compression. Compression is easy, if the car sounds normal when starting, good to go, if the engine spins really fast during starting, compression issue, but I don't think you have that issue here. You mentioned in another post that you are having issue with the fuel vapor canister? If there is an evap leak, you could be losing fuel pressure while you car is off. Do you smell fuel anywhere? If you try to leave the key in position 2 (which will turn the fuel pump on) for a little while(30sec or so) before starting the car, does the start process improve? You can check fuel pressure accessing the schrader valve on the belt side of the fuel rail.

Two things to check for a cold start problem are a) engine coolant temp sensor b) fuel pressure at start up. Possible causes are the fuel pump, the pressure sensor/regulator (not sure if the 2013s have a pressure regulator), a leaky injector - idea is, when the car sits the residual pressure at the fuel rail bleeds off and it takes a few attempts for the pump to build pressure.
You can test the temp sensor by measuring the resistance cold vs warm. Google for resistance charts but basically the sensor should read 2500 ohms or more cold (ie 25C or less ambient). As to the fuel pressure, you can check fuel pressure at the rail using a pressure gauge tools. I'm not sure what the test parameters are exactly so you may need to research. I'd expect over 25 PSI to start out to get the injectors to squirt, and if I recall these cars operating pressure is in the 55 PSI range (again not sure of the exact number).
Last thing is to check with a dealer to see if there's a software update that should be applied to your car.
