Just got a new (old) 2002 volvo s60, has some minor issues which I have most fixed or planned to fix. One issue I have that I can’t figure out is that I have no high beams at all, the dim when it decides to work will display that the highbeams should be one or off but the low beams just stay on, fuses are all good, bulbs look fine too. Blinkers also work fine.
would this be an issue caused by the dim going bad? Or could it be some sort of wiring or relay issue?
Do you Have HID bulbs or H11 low beam bulbs? (h7's in earlier cars)
HID's were an option - With H11/h7's the outer bulbs are the low beams and the inner bulb are the high beams. With HID bulbs the outer bulb is both the high and low beam - the bulb tilts up for high beam and projects the beam further down the road. The inner bulb is not used for headlamps if the outers are HID bulbs.
With your $5 test light do you have power at the #4 fuse on the end of the dash? (11c4) Do you have power (with high beams switched on) at fuses 21 and 20 in the fusebox under the hood? (11b20, 11b21) Could be a problem with the relay (2/63) - not easy to get to - it's in position 4 on the CEM, you could swap with any other with the same part number to test. (
