Default Wheel Question

Hi all,

I am new here and just looking for a simple question.

Right now my mother owns a 2002 volvo s60 2.4T AWD. Currently it has the 17" stock rims that came with it. But due to the fact that we drive in snow a lot she is looking for snow tires. I was looking and there aren't a lot of options as far as the 17" goes so I looked into getting 16" rims. I found a set of replica 16" wheels. Pretty simple design and there are a lot more options for all season and winter tires.

My question is just making sure these wheels will fit properly. I assume they would seeing 17" wheels were an option that year and they came with a base 16" wheel as well.

I don't really want to buy authentic volvo wheels to just use in the winter at $250-$300 a piece.

Here is a link to the wheels I am talking about. Any imput is appreciated. Thanks!

Hmmm.... hardly replicas at all, I understand they're only for a few months out of the year though and it's not your car.

I know these aren't 16's but it's just to show the difference between yours and a decent set of replicas:

I'd just look into some snow tires for the stock wheels. Where exactly have you been looking to find tires, have you tried just going to local tire place?

I understand they aren't EXACT replicas. I don't mind that they aren't indentical. They just look clean like a Volvo wheel. After all they are only for winter.

And we've looked into snow tires and even all seasons for the stock 17" wheels and the selection is almost not even there. They do make a one or two "performance" snow tire. But thats not what we are looking for. I was going to get the 16s and buy a set of hankook ipikes. I've had them on other cars and they were awesome. The reviews say so as well. They don't make that for a 17. Or I shouldn't say they don't make them for a 17, but they don't make them for a 17" wheel and tire combo that will fit on the car properly.

I've looked at discount tire and tire rack. I have also gone to Town Fair Tire (Northeast-wide tire dealer) and a Goodyear dealer and they say they don't even have a all season that fits the 17... Could be BS but it's what they say.

The selection for the 16" wheels are far greater as far as all seasons and winter tires are concerned, that is why I really would like 16s for the winter.

I just want to know if those wheels will fit the car. Thats all. Thanks though.

You should have no problem putting them on, the bolt pattern matches your car.

Ok, thanks. That is what I thought. Now are the brakes bigger/differnt on cars with 17" wheels. Was that an option? What about back spacing. I'm not an expert on wheels and tires. Just making sure they are the right ones before I buy them and have to send them back. They have free shipping but it's still a hassle.

I know you shouldn't have any problem with brakes unless you had an R model.

Ok, just making sure. Thanks again for the help. Just didn't want to get the 16s and find out the cars with 17s came with bigger brakes and so the 16s won't fit.

there were two different sized brakes even for non-rs BUT they would both fit under a 16 inch rim.

The wheel place needs to confirm their wheels will fit on your Volvo year/make/model.....they have the specs for all vehicles and can tell you whether there will be proper fitment. The critical issue is the "off set" size for your vehicle, the distance from the hub mounting surface to the wheel's centerline......problem with the wheel fitment if the off-set isn't correct. Some people try to override this by putting spacers on their incorrectly sized wheels but that's a safety issue. If you what OEM Volvo wheels for your snow tires, look at remanufactured wheels available from various places at a third of the cost of new Volvo wheels. I got sets of four genuine Volvo reman'd wheels for my two Volvos from Wheels America and Lakeshore Wheel & Tire for about $600 each set........like new Volvo wheels. You can Google these places to find them.
