Default Wi-FI - connection problems - a solution

My Volvo V60 (MY23) will not connect to my home broadband modem router via Wi-Fi. I've tried both a BT smart hub 2 and a FritzBox 3490.
Most modern broadband routers Wi-FI default to none SSID (service set identifier) differentiation between 2.4GHz & 5GHz (some give the option to choose to differentiate)

i.e. both 2.4GHz & 5GHz have the same SSID (unique username of Wi-Fi network) and the device trying to connect will choose the appropriate frequency.

The Volvo modem cannot seem to select the correct frequency (2.4GHz) to make a connection and will not see undifferentiated SSID broadband routers. I connected an old modem (FritzBox 7170) that only has a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection and my V60 connected without problem.

So try giving different SSIDs to the 2.4GHZ & 5GHz frequencies.

Default No 5GHz?

I have a MY23 V60 PE and just figured this out with your help. How the hell, in 2023, can anyone simply not support 5GHz WiFi? Ridiculous, Volvo.

I have an Eero mesh wifi system and even if you disable 5GHz the car simply doesn't see the network. Am I gonna have to pull out my ****ty 2015 router just so my car can connect? Unreal.

I agree but it’s just another one of a number of poor design decisions taken by Volvo. Their implementation of AAOS is incredibly poor. At least there is a solution in that if you have an old modem you can connect it via a LAN port as a ‘slave’ device & use that to connect to your Volvo. Although it’s hardly worth the effort as the internal data SIM will handle software & map updates albeit a bit slower.

Yeah you're right. I managed to hook it up via 2.4GHz last night to install AAOS 2.9. Instead of taking 1.5 hours, it took 30 minutes. So, that was useful. But more interestingly...once it was installed it joined my normal WiFi network no problem! So weird.

That is weird ..... are you setup with 1 SSID for both 2.4 & 5 GHz or do they have separate SSIDs?
I just tried to connect without using my old modem & that failed but I use 1 SSID for both frequencies.

The Eero uses both frequencies and one SSID. Prior to the update, it wouldn't join. Now it finds it.

I turned off Storage (NAS) function and the Media Server and my V60 connected OK. Changed to have the same SSID for both frequencies and again all OK.
Go figure!
