Default 1999 volvo s70 misfire?? help :(

Well first off i have a 1999 s70 t5.

I was changing my oil today and after i was done my dad lightly sprayed off my engine with water.

after i started driving home i went about 5 miles with no problems at all, then it start to "misfire" and the check engine light came on blinking for a few seconds then just stayed on. I parked it and waited like 30 mins (car turned off) and started it again and it was still misfiring and the check engine light was still solid..

i read up on this and i'm thinking its a cracked/bad coil???

what else could it be, or what should i try to fix first to solve this issue?

- also i have been running 91 octane for the past few months and last night i just put back in 87 octane, not that it should have anything to do with this problem ..?

Please, the sooner someone could help me the better!

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Also, could the water have caused this problem? or would that have nothing to do with it?

Thanks

Depending on exactly how much water he used and if it got in by the coils yes it can affect it.
It could also just be a coil that went bad.

Is that most likely the problem? The coil is bad? And thanks for the quick reply!

Yes that or a spark plug. But I would side with the coil. Stop by autozone or something like that and have the codes pulled.

+1 on pulling the codes. That will tell you which cylinder is missing. Also, once you know that one, you can un-plug it and re-connect it, that may clear the code if water made it loose just a little bit of it's connection. Water & old cars don't juve well in electrical parts. Every once in a while I just unplug & plug things back in to give it a fresh connection.

Try to be careful when washing down the motor. I washed my 850 motor and the next day I found a LOT of water in my spark plug holes. I didn't even think I sprayed that much water on the top of my motor but I had to pull each spark plug cover and dry them out with paper towels.

You should go get your own OBD-II gauge. It's cheaper than running to the shop everytime you get a cel.

There is one but i guess it is against the law in CA for them to loan the tool out to people, so looks like i'm going to have to buy one..
