Default 850 vs s70

This question maybe asked all the time but what are the main differences between the s70 t5 and 850 t5? And does anyone know the weights of these cars?

There are also minor cosmetic changes to the bodies and trim (tail lights, trim colors, etc.)

The T5 was the biggest motor. Other then the R that didn't come to America.

I believe the N/A 850's came in manual. So if you want a manual you will have to find one in a junk yard and do a swap. Or find someone who already did that swap.

This guy does not say that his car is a t5, but if he is trying to sell it I am sre that he would have. But then again, who knows what has been done to it.

The 850 and S70 non-turbo cars were available with a 5-speed manual tranny. All the 850 turbo models were available in the U.S. with only an auto tranny. The biggest plus with the S70 (for enthusiasts anyway) was that the T5 was avaialble with a 5-speed manual and the HP was increased to 236 from the 222 of the 97 850 turbo/R. Lots of cosmetic improvements on the S70 over the 850. The S70 has the front end styling of the C70, body color side and bumper moldings (this is a big improvement as many people hated the black plastic mouldings on the 850 that faded and look like crap after a few years), new tail lamp treatment, and a completely re-styled interior.

I like the 850 interior way better than the S70. The S/V70 constantly has problems with the door panels bubbling up and the arm rests are next to useless on the doors. I drive my 850's way more than my V70, and so does my wife. Also I like the grey body trim better than the trim being the same color. Just a personal preference. Now if I can find a red 98 V70 T5M, I'm buiying it though. I want a turbo five speed, and that's not available on the 850.

Well, I don't agree with you about the 850 vs. S/V70 interior. Only one of my S70's has the door panel separation problem and in my opinion the interior of the 850 is very 'dated' compared to the 70 and I prefer the window controls on the door vice on the center console.

The red 98 V70 T5M that you're looking for is owned by Yellow95 over on Swedespeed, but I have first dibs if Gary decides to sell...

Definitely agree about the window controls being on the door instead of in the console. Put a drink in the cup holder and can't reach the window controls on the 850. But I do like the arm rests much better in the 850. They really are pretty much the same car though, from the perspective of finding a good deal on that style Volvo.

Agreed... the 98 S70 is mechanically the same car as the 850. Things changed a bit in the engine compartment in 99 and they imported far fewer T5s that year and even less in 2000.

The S70 has a little more modern looking front end sheet metal, and also has improved safety features. By and large, they are the same car.

I prefer 850's in the "feeling solid" department, but the interior is much more to my tastes in the S70. Although I don't think any amount of feel good interior will change the fact that the vinyl on the doors in S70s comes off easily. [:@] (at least with the two S70s I have access to).
