Default S70 headlamps (can install preford S40 lights in S70?)

Does anyone know if you can replace the S70 lights with those on the pre 2004.5 S40? Those on the S40 look so much more clear and a bit more high-tech looking. They look about the same size. Looks like the wiper direction might be reversed, but would that make a difference? Has anybody done this? Does anybody else agree that the S70 headlights look out of date?

No you cannot. The s40 and s70 models are totally different. Sorry

If you want clearer lenses then purchase one of two things.

1. E-code headlamps lenses and turn signals. These are European spec and are clearer then the U.S. DOT spec lenses. You may not think they are but they are.

-FCP Groton
-EuroSportTuning (EST), they have the E-code turn signals
-Viva Performance
-IPD USA, they sell the clear turn signals

Yes these are the E-code headlamps and turn signals. The picture isof my car. Purchased from FCP Groton.

2. Purchase the ABM Chrome and or Black Projector headlamps and turn signals. These have a true clear lens.

-EuroSportTuning (EST), they sell both the Chrome and Black ABM Projector headlights and turn signals
-DTMwerks, sells both the Chrome and Black ABM turn signals. E-mail to ask if they have the headlights too.
-EBAY, type in Volvo Projector

Again this is my car. I upgraded to the ABM Chrome Projectors. I also added HID's to them as well as you can see.

*Oh a third option...

3. 70 Series Jewel's. And no you cannot just buy the replacement lenses for the headlamps and get away with it.

-Viva Performance
-Dealership

*These were for the c70 model, but can be used on any of the 98-00 70 series models.

Depends on where you buy them. Look them up on each website I provided the name of.

IPD USA
VIVA PERFORMANCE
EuroSportTuning (EST)
EBAY (Type in Volvo Projectors)
DTMwerks

GOOGLE all of them but EBAY and you should find the sites and or use the Volvo Forums Resources thread linked in my signature and or go to General Volvo and use the Volvo Forums Resources Thread there.

No problem. I would go ABM Projectors or Jewels. I had the E-codes and they looked great but I like my projectors more.

i understand that the S40 headlights will not fit themselves but what if you just wanted the Clear lenses? i did a retrofit on my S70 and its hard to find the C70 headlight lenses for cheap, i was considering the S40 lenses, will they fit?

No the lenses will not fit from the s40 to the s70 assemblies. Again the s40 and s70 headlights are different, they WILL NOT FIT each other.

Viva Performance used to sell the clear c70 jewel headlight lenses, I don't see them on their site anymore... However even though you can install these... It isn't recommended. Why? Because your OEM headlights are not made to utilize the completely clear lenses. The light would be unfocused and would produce too much glare.

If you want clear lenses your options are the full c70 jewel headlight assemblies or the ABM Projector assemblies.

I read your post correctly... However you only said retrofit, that doesn't mean projectors. Projector retrofit does mean just that. Retrofit could have meant anything...

Anyways... There are some writeups on how to make your OEM lenses clearer on some other Volvo based forums. I doubt there is any on this forum as most people here are here for maintainence.
