Exclamation 98 s70 t5

hey yall,

newb here, but long time volvo lover. i am about to aquire a 98 s70 from a close friend of mine, just becasue i dont want to see it go to the scrapper. (wayy too many memories)

now it needs a lot of maintence items,(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing belt, water pump, rear trailing arms, shocks, struts, etc) all of which i am comfortable doing. ( i am an ase mecahnic) however, without actually having the car yet, i cant get the vin to find out what turbo it has.

being that the car has 240K on it, and i have personally beat the hell out of it, as has the previous owner, i would like to rebuild the turbo. from everything that i have found, it looks like the stock turbo is a mitsu unit, nameley the Td-04. is this the case?

i contacted the local volvo specialists ( swedish engineering), and they quoted me 695 for a rebuild...........way too much for my liking. i would just as soon get a t3 and an ecu reflash for that cost.

so my question is, what effing turbo does this thing have? is it worth rebuilding it myself, or should i just go for the t3?

this car will be my fiances daily driver. its already got bilsteins, sway bars, eibachs, and upgraded brakes. this car is meant to be a cruiser and reliable car. (much like the car was meant to be from volvo..:P)

oh yea, fist post, and thanks for the weloming
Glade

If it is a 1998 S70 T5 then it has a 16T straight flange turbo. Which is a TD04-HL turbo.

Turbo rebuild write up. Kits are approx $120 or less, depending on what you need and where you get it.
