Default 98 T5 dead on side of road

Car died on way to work this morning, had enough left to get me into a parking lot, tried to accelerate away from stoplight and no engine response. Got car into parking spot and it died. started up one more time and idled for a while but wouldnt keep running and now it won't start. Seemed like a fuel problem so I disconnected the fuel line from rail and turned the key on and nothing. I got a ride in to work and will deal with it tonight. I have a couple of questions, what are the odds of it being the fuel pump relay, if it is the pump how is it accessesd, it was raining this morning what is the possibility that the wiring was grounding, where is the fuel filter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try disconnecting your Mass Air Flow Sensor and see if it will hold an idle.

Fuel filter is here http://volvospeed.com/Repair/fuelfilter.php and very easy to replace.
Big possibility on relay.

Default S70 T5 now dead in drive way

Got car towed home and I have no power to the fuel pump, I would like to jump out the relay but dont have any schematics, my new question is what blades do I jumper across to rule out relay? Once again any help would be appreciated. Just to note I have 12 V going to pin 87. I think this a good sign. Found a post and jumped 87 to 15 and have 12 v at pump as this seems to be good news I am concerned that I should be getting 12 v across 31 and 31b to pull the coil in and Im not seeing that, so new question should I be seeing volltage across 31 and 31 B with the ignition on and if so what does that mean? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How much time & effort to install that fuel pump? Did you get any diagrams to do it with?

Nice to see you got it back up and running. I am surprised the pump was not making noise before it went out.

Side note to anyone else chasing this sort of problem: you won't get voltage to the fuel pump if you only have the key turned to the on position- the ECM requires an RPM signal in order to turn on the pump, so if you have no fuel pressure and are trying to see if it's the pump, you need to have someone crank the engine in order to see voltage.

As for the relay, the terminals to jump when bypassing as a test are 87 and 30. The other 2 are what the ECM controls.

I learned the hard way about getting the voltage to the pump, when my son got home I went in for one last check and had him crank the engine then saw the 12 V on the fuel pump, I was scratching my head up until then.

I replaced my FP last summer 1997 850R wagon. It was making noise so when it wouldn't start I just ran 12V to the pump directly and gave it a whack or two for good measure. I didn't want to look at diagrams and took a short cut. I am in the middle of a oil trap replacement and will do the heater core next. Winter is coming and my FZ1 isn't a viable choice in slush, snow, ice. Glad to see it worked out for you.
