Question AC prolmems....sometimes cool, sometimes not..

When I first turn on my AC, the two lights on the system flash. I do indeed have air blow, and occasionally it is cold, but then it just blows air, not hot air, but whatever air is coming into the car I guess.

I can hear the compressor kicking on and off though.

Thoughts?

Thank you!!!

I would have the freon level checked.

OK, I took it to a valvoline oil change mechanic and he was able to determine it is just low on freon, but did not have the right guage to re-charge the car. He stated I may need to take the car to volvo. Does anyone know if I can go somewhere else?

You should be able to take it to any local repair shop. It sounds like you've got air in the lines, which means there's a leak some where. If you have the tools, it's a simple check to find any leaks, with dye and a black light. Likely culprits are the valve stems on the high and / or low side. If you don't have access to tools, it's gonna get a little pricey. Components that should be replaced if you're gonna be in there anyway... orifice tube, usually less than $10 at any local auto parts store, the accumulator/drier, can be as much as $100, but needs to be done, and last but not least, the o-rings at any location you separate the the a/c lines. Once you open the a/c system, it must be evacuated completely, a vacuum pulled on the system, check for leaks again, and refill. It can be done at home, but seek some assistance if you're not familiar with it. This is just a rough outline of what to do... just some advice, imo.
