Antenna Mast Again
I think I have read every post on antenna mast removal and installation as well as directions at other Volvo sites. Still have a question since it reads to me that after I remove the nut on the outside of the car- the one visible on the rear side deck of the car- I should just be able to turn the radio on and pull out the entire mast and then feed the new one back in without removing any other hardware. Is that correct? Because I have done that and I still cannot pull the mast out. Feels like I should have to remove the weird looking nut on the top of the part that is in the car, but I cannot see how to remove that one with conventional weapons.
Maybe it's just stuck in there? Anyone have some ideas/instructions beyond those at Bay13?
The motor is working it just does not extend it completely.

Thanks in advance.

It must just be stuck. Sometimes you need to pull pretty hard just to get it out.
But if the plastic that moves the mast broke you will need to open the motor up and remove the broken parts.
Can you manaully move the mast up and down?

I can move it up and down somewhat, but it's very difficult to move it- call it about 50% extended at most. I've opened it up and the plastic gear stuff does not appear to be broken at all. Should it just pull out without removing that funky nut?
Placed it in the workmate to hold it down (taking care not to crush it) and then pulled up with a bit of the ultra-violence while standing on the step of the workmate and after a couple of minutes it finally let go except for the bottom section. The bottom required several hits with a hammer alternating with pulling it out with the vice-grips and then she finally popped out. The top section was corroded internally where it overlapped with the bottom section. The bottom section was full of hardened-goo-crud-dirt junk. Disassembled the motor while I had it out and cleaned out the dirt then reassembled. Reinstalled and she's going up and down again with full extension.
Looks to me that if you live in an area with several months every year of snow-ice-salt-slush-rain pulling that puppy out can be a extremely difficult after 10 years. Probably a good idea to clean it often.
Thanks again for help.
