Default antenna troubles 98 s70

The antenna does not fully retract, so I'm trying to figure out if I need a new mast or a whole new antenna. I am fairly certain it is just the mast. I took the mast out, it doesn't seem too bent. But my real question is, how much longer is the white plastic piece than the mast (when it is at full length)? Mine is just about an inch or so longer. It seems like it should be longer than that to stay on the gear. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like the plastic broke.
If that is the case to install a new mast you will have to open the motor and remove the broken part then install the new mast.

I have yet to find out what exactly is wrong, but I went ahead and grabbed a new antenna at a junkyard while I was getting other things. So farI've gotten better reception and ithasn't failed onceto fully go up or down.
