Default Bad heater core - safe to drive?

After researching on the net and speaking with my mechanic, it's obvious that the steam coming from my vents is a bad heater core. Unfortunately, I can't afford to have it fixed at the moment. My question is: Will it hurt the car if I continue to drive it unfixed? I don't need either the heater or the A/C right now (the steam only came out when I turned the A/C on). This isn't my only vehicle - just my favorite. Your advice is appreciated. (Also - I am NOT mechanical in any way, so please no advice on how to fix it myself - thanks!)

Atleast get the heater core bypassed. If you do not and continue to drive it the inside of the car will have coolant leaking in it.

+1 on bypassing the core, usually you can just connect the 2 heater hoses with a plastic connector.......coolant steam is poison you do not want to be breathing it in .especially kids.......
