belt help
just got my timing belt for 98 s70 t5 and im already having issues just trying to get my serpentine belt off.
haynes manual called for a spanner to release tension,
i went to auto zone and rented thier "serpentine belt tool"
and it will not fit in the hole.
volvo says 830 $ to replace the timing belt, so i want to get it done,
any tips would be greatly appreciated,
thank you

The hole that the tool needs to go in is a 3/4 drive hole.
Most average serpentine kits have the adapter. In a jam I have been able to use a pry bar between the pulley and tensioner to move it and get the belt off.

yeah, the 3/4"drive hole is the way to do it... I know Advance's serp belt tool has the adapter in there to do it, though it's a bit awkward, since the hole has a slight taper. I took a 1/2" to 3/4" drive adapter and ground the square down and to a similar taper to help it fit better.
Here's the best write up I've found:

850 and S70 should be essentially the same.. have fun but be careful!
