Blown rod and very sad.....
Hey V70ers I have a question and need your proper advice. We have a v70 (1998 edit) with a dead engine. It has over 200000 miles ran great until the rod threw.... leather interior and still in nice condition. Our mechanic offered $300. They stated about $4000 for a used installed engine. The tires are NEW with less then 1000 miles on them and their worth $600. What's this car valued at with a dead engine? Should I just scrap it at a junk yard or try to part it out. I don't have to much free time with the kids and I don't want it staying in the yard going to waste. I could probably get maybe 14 hours a week in on it. As of now I'm thinking I want the tires and look into taking the front seats out and seeing if they would/could fit into my 740. Is that doable? I have some basic knowledge wouldn't call myself a novice but just one step above that...... any insight would be very welcomed! I miss that car but honestly I like the 740 more!!

Thats a lot for a used install. I bought my s70 motor used and warranteed for $750. Im not sure about the value of whats left, I personally didnt want to try and part out the salvageable parts for fear of sitting on any of them. If you have time then why not? It will yield the most money back over time. Not sure of the seat compatibility but between those and the wheels, thats more than 300. I got quoted by shops anywhere between $2000-3500, and even then they wouldnt touch it because of the mileage. I found a shop that would install the motor for 800 if I found and bought it myself. I ended up doing it myself for less than $1000. My first swap and I finished in about 5 days of inconsistent work and waiting on parts. What color are the seats? I need new brown fronts
I think you can find someone to do a motor swap for $1,500. It would be no different than a 850 if your motor had the hydraulic tensioner on the timing belt.
You can do it yourself if you can rent or get an engine hoist somehow. I got a motor for less than $200 from a local salvage yard. It took me about 3 hours to pull it so in sure the job can be done in 10 hours by someone that has never done it before.
Heck, I'd even consider coming to you and doing it.
Can you tell us why it threw a rod?

Wish I had the time to do a install. And the knowledge. I tried once before and failed $$$$ horribly! I kept the wheels and let the tan seats in the junk yard have me $250....... Not to happy.... I'm now trying to study up on my 740 so I can do a proper engine rebuild. But I'm in no rush and that makes a big difference! Thanks
