Default Blowoff valve location

...On my '98 S70 GLT, which has a high torque - low rev turbo from my understanding. I was just wondering the location of the blowoff valve out of curiosity, as I can only hear the whistle on certain occasions when accellerating heavily. [or maybe I'm hearing things, roof-rack etc.]

On another note, is my knowlege correct in that the high torque - low rev turbo in the 98 S70 GLT's purpose is for accelleration more than a top-end speed?

Thanks

their is no blow off valve on your volvo. volvos have a cbv which cycles the air back into the intake.

You do not have a stock BOV.

You have what is calleda CBV.

Also your an LPT (Low Pressure Turbo). High torque? 210 is what your torque is stock on the LPT if you consider that high torque.

You can add a BOV to your car. You wont get any performance gains from it. Just a cool sound.

1. If you buy from EBAY be sure you buy a real HKS SSQV. Not a knockoff.

2. If you mount it on your Upper IC Pipe you will need an Aluminum flange.

word of advice though, when I first got my EST cold air intake, it was loud and sounds aggressive, I thought it was kool as hell, but now the sound is terribly annoying. So think twice about getting a blow off valve. It will be kool as hell at the start, but you may get tired of the noise very fast.

Yeah, I know what you mean, my buddy just upgraded his intake on his Subaru Legacy GT and the sound is just what you describe, I'm only contemplating the BOV so far.

With an automatic you will only hear the BOV go off when you let off the gas. Also only when your actually in boost and let off the gas. So normal driving you wont hear a BOV in an automatic.

Of course you do as do I. But with a BOV you wont unless your in boost and you let off the gas.

I have a volvo 1998 s70 t5 andI was looking at putting a blow off valve on it. I have a manual transmision. Has any one doen this before and if so any tips or words of advise. I was wondering if the volvo has the mass-airflow thing that would casue the engine to run rich for a perioud of time. And if i never engage the turbo I wont hear the bov. how much boostdoes the stock turbo put out.I was also curious if the t5 has a bigger turbo than the glt? I have heard both ways.
Sorry for stealling the post

1. Your car does have a MAF and yes you will run rich every single time your BOV goes off for that split second that it goes off.

2. On a manual I don't know if you will hear it or not if your not engaging the turbo. I know in an automatic you wont hear it unless the turbo is engaged. I have a feeling more then not that when you have a manual you tend to probably go into boost more then someone with an automatic. I might be wrong but that is my theory.

3. Your turbo puts outwards of 10-15 PSI stock.

4. Whoever told you that a the T5 can have a smaller turbo then a GLT model is wrong. The T5 was the HPT model. High Pressure Turbo (HPT), the GLT was the LPT model. Low Pressure Turbo (LPT). Thusly the HPT has a bigger turbo then the LPT does. Example mine is an LPT comes with a 13g turbo. Yours is an HPT comes with a 16T turbo. They might not be that much bigger or smaller from each other but one is smaller and one is bigger and one produces more boost then the other and one produces less boost then the other.

So if I put the blow off valve on it and it ran rich when it went off what would that do to my car ?
Also has anyone done this before ?
Another question I have is how high of boost has some one ran with out destroying the stock engine ?
Thanks

You are right and are wrong. The s70 T5 models came with the 16T turbos. While the 850 T5 models came with the 15g turbos.
