Default CarFax?

Hey All,

Was hoping for (another) favor; does anyone have an extra CarFax they're not planning on using???

If so, and you could run this VIN for me, would very much appreciate it!!!

YV1LS5671W2476225

This could be the one! It's a '98 S70 and am posting this both in the 850 and S70 forums. Don't mean to spam but time is critical!

Thanks all and if anyone can help me out, I will definitely owe you one!

Carfax it's just a piece of paper and it will not tell you anything about the real condition of the car.

I disagree. It is another source of information on service history, repo history, and major crash history. I checked out the CarFax on a used '06 we bought a year ago and it checked out with the dealer service history. I trust it more than the seller's EBay description, for instance. Its possible that an owner took your potential car elsewhere, but ask for service and repair records. It never hurts to ask. Even though I keep cars way to long to be worth much, I do keep my service & repair records.

Sorry to the poster, but I don't have any spares anymore.

Ok, let me rephrase that." It will not tell you anything about the present mechanical condition of the car, absolutely nothing ".
Carfax can be anything (worthless garbage for me) but it's not a mechanic.
So... you decide if the car is good or not, because you got some oil changes in carfax? Example:Owner knows the head gasket is going ( or multiple other expensive problems at the same time) and decides to sell the car, showing you clean Carfax with past service history records.
Do you assume the car is good because carfax is clean? Give me a break and "don't show me the carfax", it's worthless. It's a way to make money, profiting from people who don't know any better.
I am not trying to fight with you buddy, but i just hate those Carfax TV publicity designed to make people think that carfax will tell them if the car is good or not.It will not.

Thanks to all who replied; but I have moved on to looking at other cars...

Also since I apparently started a flame throwing contest, will throw my $.02 in too.

A CarFax is indeed only a piece of paper; true, but so is a vehicle title...

I would never judge a used car "good" because it has a good CarFax report; I would ONLY rule it out if the CarFax indicated something bad (e.g. major collision damage, etc.).

BTW: In researching all this, I am leaning toward using AutoCheck next time instead of CarFax.

OK, flame on....
