check engine light?
hello everyone, im new to the volvo world due to receiving a 1998 s70 that is my daily driver(350-400 miles a week). when the car was given to me by a family member it needed alot of work.1-front axles
2-lower control arms.3-inner tie rods.4-grill and hood release.5-heater core.6-wheel bearings.7-pcv kit, there is more but dont remember eveything. the only lights on are the traction cotrol and ABS lights, occasionally they go out but will come right back on. also the check engine light does not come on at all, even at first when all lights come on and do a bulb check.i live in rhode island so since the vehicle is obd II it has to be plugged in with the inspection computer. i was told that my car is an exception to the obd II inspection. why? and i cant read any of the modules with a scan tool, why?. and why is there no check engine light?

The light should definitely be coming on with the bulb check. There are a few generic OBD-II code readers that won't read these cars for some reason... try a code reader made by Actron- they usually will work.
As for your car being an exception to the e- check... who told you that? an inspector, or the person you got the car from? I'm not familiar with the laws in RI, but that sounds really odd to me.

thanx for the info. and the inspector is the one said that the car was exempt. at the garage i work at we do not have an inspection machine so we send them to a garage that has a inspection machine.no big deal i will figure it out was just curious if anyone else ran into that problem.anyways, thanx again.
