Default Check Engine Light Flashing?

Today I was driving home on the freeway..I was at about 40 and I did my usual routine, S button and then floor the gas..all of a sudden I see the check engine light flashing continuously for about 5 seconds and then just stay on. Anyone know what went wrong and what can I do to fix the problem?

The light flashing usually means misfiring.
Could be time for a tune up.

And don't keep driving it until it's fixed or you could cause more problems.

I also have the flashing cel. Napa ran the scan. Code was misfire cyl#1, changed coil pack from Cyl#1 with Cly#2. returned to Napa, cleared code first, then drove around the block and when cel came back on I returned to Napa ran the code, code came up misfire cyl#2. ordered a new coil pack. Will install tomorrow and i'll let you know how it worked out.

If you work on anything in the spark plug area I suggest a shop vac be near by. It seems the plastic sleeve the coil wires are in will break up in little pieces that can fall in to the sparkplug channel way, and you do not want them to fall in to the cylinders when and if you replace the plugs.

Just some info for you, take a look at the other coils. Its common for the others to also fail. A easy way to check for a bad coil, pull the coil and remove the boot. If you see a crack, then the coil is bad or will be soon. I bet all are cracked unless its been repalced before.

Just finished up the replacement of the coil pack. went back to Napa and cleared out the codes. WOW WOW WOW what a difference between having 4 cyl car to a 5 cly car. check engine light gone and doesn't come back. If I could just get rid of the RED SERVICE light that will not reset. It does go out after 2 mins just like the manual said but it sure would be nice. Hope this gives you the courage to try this solution.

You have to go to the dealer to turn it off.

If his car has coil packs then it is new enough to not have to go to the Dealer to have it reset. It is reset like the like the S60,01 and up V70 and S80's with the trip reset button.

You are right tech .........like always. Somehow I lost my track (read so many treads) and ended up thinking of 850 instead of V70. I reset my S60 following this link

OH YEAH, it worked Red Service light GONE!. Thanks to the forum, I changed out my heater core for $129.00 and got rid of the water indicator light, Changed out a Coil pack and got rid of the check engine light, and now the service light is out to.
