Question climate control desk question!

Hey everyone,

For the past few days, i've noticed something strange happening with my temperature console/climate control desk in my 1998 S70 GLT. A little while after i turn the car on i notice there are 2 lights that are simultaneously blinking - the 'Recirculate air inside car' button as well as the "OFF" button for the AC. These 2 buttons will start blinking at the same time, and occasionally stop blinking at the same time.
This has occurred while the car has been on and the fan/AC is not in use. (So the slider is under the O mark)

Anyone have any ideas what this means?

(I tried attaching a picture of a console with the circled buttons... this is just a picture from the web, not my unit)

There are other threads that explain why the flashing occurs. I'll try to find them.

I'm guessing this fault indicator may be activated for a number of reasons. I've had this happen to me. Looking at the linked threads posted above, people seem to relate it to low refrigarent. I would never argue with others on this subject. I am not an A/C expert. But I can tell you I've had to recharge my system a couple of times (due to a leaky receiver dryer) and the lights never activated when this happened. The system just evetually stopped blowing cold air.

I've had the blinking light issue twice. The service manager at my local volvo dealer advised me to change the cabin air filter and vacuum the dust out of the little vent containing the indoor air temperature probe. Its located on the dashboard on the drivers side below the right side of the instrument panel. You likely never noticed it was there. Its a little grille maybe an inch or two square if I remember correctly. I think there is a little fan in there that draws air in and across the probe, which feeds the cabin temperature to the climate control system. I just held the shop vac up to the grill. I did both these things each time. So, I can't say which fixed the issue. But, the light did stop flashing both times.
