Default DISC Error

Hello! First post to the forums, bummer I didn't stumble on this place sooner.

I have a Volvo S70 yr2000. When I picked up the car (2nd owner) a few years ago I would intermittently be alerted in the in dash display of DISC.

I've asked the folks at Volvo of Orange County along with my local mechanic as to what they think the error is without solution. The computer has been reset a few times and only recently did the error become nagging (each time I change from temp/miles>o/total miles, etc) and flashes on startup as well.

This am I contacted Volvo USA and they referred me back to Volvo of OC (told me to speak with a certain rep directly). After a few phone calls I was told that Volvo of OC "guesses" that the computer may be coming disconnected, a wire may be pinched, or the circuit board may have problems.

If anyone has any information or a hypothesis of their own I would like to hear it. Also, is this something I should leave with a local mechanic or allow the dealer to check out. Neither seems to have any real clue as to how to resolve yet this isn't the first time that Volvo has tried to start digging around in my car with an open ended job.

And yes, I searched.

Also the error could be viewed as D15C.

Thanks for your help!

Usually when that happens it means the switch for the trip computer is going bad.

Next time it happens play with the switch and see if it goes away. If so the switch is bad.

This morning I took my car back into the shop (taking care of the basics before school starts back up) and ran the story by my mechanic.

Unfortunately today was the first day in the last several weeks that the error message was not displaying and yeah..I tried to trip it by moving the switch around to the different modes but it just displayed everything perfect. Haha, reminds me of having a tooth ache and the day you go to the dentist it stops hurting. :<

Anyhow, for those of you trying to figure out what I'm talking about, heres a shot.

Thanks for your help

I have replaced about 30 of those switches in the last 5 years from that same message.

I have seen similar problems on my 1997 S70 CD, it happens when you switch between functions, however, mine says"no d15c" (no disk) rather than just "d15c" (disk), it goes away within a fraction of a second, does that mean it;s bad?

Does this require immediate attention? I notice the same display intermittently.

Will this cause my 2000 S70GLT SE to not start? What's the worse scenerio. Is this expensive to eventually fix?

It is fine like it is worse case DISC stays stuck on the dash.
It will not affect running at all.

THanks. I thought it was a switch located in the engine compartment and not the selecotor switch on the dash. My mistake.

Default S80 2007 CD Disk Error

I have an S80 (2007). The disk 4 CD position is stuck. It says eject, then load, then disk error. Cycles through the same steps whether radio is on or on CD.

Can anyone help?

Default S70 Trip Computer DISC or D15c Error Code

I have the same problem, it occurs intermittantly, the six LCD indicators (which normally indicate the currently active fundtion such as temp, mpg, distance to empty, etc. )to the left of each display function are all active and the message display to teh right of the clock shows disc or d15c. It usually goes away after a few seconds. Sometimes it happens when you are changing the selected function turning the instrument panel switch other times you are just driving along and it happens as well.

I too checked out my local Volvo independent service tech as well as Orange County Volvo and neither of them had any readily explainable cause or solution to the problem. This code is not in the 2000 Volvo S70 Owners manual either. I have an early produciton February 2000 GLT SE.

It is a bit absurd that VOLVO NORTH AMERICA nor VOLVO SWEEDEN have no idea what this is all about or put it in a Tehc Bulletin for the service community to be aware of. When you go to a dealer you don't expect gee we have no idea, especially since from the number of posts it does look somewhat common.

So did anyone who changed the instrument panel TRIP COMPUTER SWITCH confirm that this did indeed SOLVE the DISC or d15cproblem or like one person posted is this an OPEN ENDED and OPEN $ service order to train VOLVO SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS about one of their products at the ownres expense?

It is amazing that such a problem could be caused by a simple rotary swtich.

In the past I have replaced many of the switches on customers cars and it fixed the problem.
