I have a 2000 Volvo s70. Recently the ets light has been on in the car is stuck in limp mode. I did a Google search but couldn't get a good answer. Any body know how I fix this?

There technically was no official recall on the etm. Volvo got away with just a warranty extend for the etm. The etm on 99-01 years are when they went electronic and are known to always fail. Essentially they made the etm with a moving part that gets rubbed against and eventually fails. When this happens you lose almost all power, limp-home mode, or pressing the gas does next to nothing. Since your etm light is on and you are in limp-home mode, than I guarantee it is the etm. I have dealt with this before on my mothers 99 s70 glt.

Here is what you need to do; go to this website called Xemodex Inc. Technology Improved and get a rebuilt etm. They essentially make the etm without that moving part so it never fails again and they even program your VIN# into the etm, so it is literally plug and play. All you have to do is just put the part in and your car will work right away. That is the only way to really, fully fix the etm. Do not listen to anyone saying you just need a software update. If you have any questions let me know. I would be glad to help.

Thanks for the help guys. Is it a relatively simple install? I'm not real familiar with Volvo and not even sure where the throttle body is

Just checked it out. $500 is more than I think I'm willing to put in it at this point. I can't believe it is that much for a tb

I know what you mean. Just remember what I said, as that is truly the only way to fix that problem. If money is tight go to a junk yard or purchase an etm that is cheaper to get more life out of your car but remember it will always fail as the xemodex ETM are the only ones that fix the problem.

OP: Or you can rebuild it yourself, but may be over your head if you can't find the TB..
