front end vibration
 

I just started noticing a vibration type of noise from the front end of my 99 S70 AWD. The vibration pitch increases with speed and is especially noticeable when I turn the wheel to the right, and it almost disappears when I turn the wheel to the left. The noise is a constant hum, not like a rotational noise where there's a pause as the tire rotates around again. I hope this is descriptive enough...

Last time I had the car serviced, they noted that I had a loose right tie rod. Could this be vibrating and causing the noise? I also just had the tires replaced a month ago, but hadn't noticed this noise until this last weekend... Any suggestions would be very helpful before the mechanic starts giving me a laundry list of things to fix. Thanks!

Tie rod inner's and outer's are a good place to start.

also check your axles

Could be a wheel bearing. If it's louder when turning to the right, it's most likely the left wheel bearing because that's where the weight of the car is shifting to.

Same situation here. I have a loud hum while driving but gets louder when i turn right. I just had 4 new tires put in with both front and rear alignment. Last time this happened to me in my other car, it was the bearing.

I had my tires changed at Town Fair Tires. The guy inspected the car and told me he didn't see any movement in the wheels. So I was thinking if it was a tire rod it would have been obvious to them. Bearing on the other side is not obvious all the times unless you're driving.

Any suggestions?

Check Your inner/outer c/v joints.

I would start with checking the tires. Make sure they are balanced.

Then I would check the wheel bearings. A small pit in a bearing can cause the noise, it will only get worse. Bearings are a pretty easy fix. That was the problem with a Honda Accord I had.
