Default Fuel PUMP

I am hearing this pitching noise,at times when I start my 1998 s70 non-turbo,could it be the sign of my fuel pump going bad,and how do I diagnose it.

I would have it checked really soon to make sure it isn't the timing belt idler or tensioner pulley.

Makes quite a whining noise when goingbad opon start up, itusually goes away in 2 minutes but still needs to be changed as it will finally throw a check engine light

sorry I failed to clarify, the noise is coming by where the fuel pump is located near the gas tank, not by the engine compartment,my timing belt is new.I have no noise whatsoever around the engine.

Well, since there is absolutely nothing else back there that could make noise, you may as well look at the pump

You can try just turning the ignition key to run position and let the fuel pump prime. While listening near the fuel tank, should be the only thing really running at that point.
