I will soon own a 2002 Volvo S70, there is a problem though. While Idleing the car will rev up to 1500 rpms by itself with no one touching the gas pedal. It'll rev up to 1500 then go back down to zero then it'll do it again, and again, and again. I am quite perplexed on what is happening, if you have any ideas let me know PLEASE

 

Dont know if any this is right but, sounds like maybe a bad air fuel ratio casued by a leak, possibly the ecu adding more fuel causing the engine to rev, then it stops and goes back down and repeats. I only say this, because that is almost what happened when I had a major vac leak. The car drove fine but would do that at idle. *I could be completly wrong so dont go in for a smoke test just yet*

 

Try cleaning the throttle body.

 

Yeah, if that dosen't correct it, check for primary vacuum leaks.

 

I hate to say it but there wasn't a 2002 Volvo s70. 1998-2000 is when they were made.
