Default Headlight Sockets

I've been replacing headlight bulbs to the tune of 3 or 4 a year for years now. I've suspected that the socket having disintegrated into 2 bare wires with female clips on the ends might be to blame but never have gotten around to do anything about it.
Then yesterday I saw that IPD sells them for under 5 bucks each and my son is coming into town for the week (special thanks to Oklahoma State for making him attend classes through Christmas break in order to graduate in the spring. At least he got the 25th off.)
My question is; the photo shows that the ends are just 1/4 inch or so of stripped wire. As I don't have the car here to look at and I need to know how these are attached to whatever they attach to. I no longer have a garage to work in and they frown on working on cars in my condo garage.

Volvo re-engineered the entire socket wiring assembly and the replacements work well. Other than getting the snap in connector out of the rear of the headlight housing it is, literally, a snap to replace them.

The socket on the rear of the housing is held in place by 4 tabs and you can't really get to two of them. I used a cutoff wheel on a Dremel tool to more or less saw the old ones out on two sides.

Part Number 9438738 (around $25.00 each) will fix you right up.
