That sound to good to be true. I would have a compression test done somewhere to make sure the motor is not worn. Even if it passes the compression test, it could still have worn bearings.

You may want to call the dealer back and ask the mechanic if he did a compression test, if so, what are the numbers???

I have to say you got lucky. But I also have to say I don't understand why the mechanic did not pull 1 or more rod andgor main caps and check clearances and bearing surface quality. Checkiny 1 of each would take about 5 minutes with the oil pan off. Especially a car with over 200K miles on it.

At this point I agree with rspi tha tyou should run a compression test. Cylinder wall damage will cause oil burining and you won't see that in the performance until it is really bad and you are adding a quart of oil every few hundred miles.

Thanks guys. Just called to check.

In other news....my car is not starting this morning....if the compression was not checked, it will get checked today.

Interior lights are turning on but engine is not turning over. I hope it's the alternator and not anything related to my engine.

Battery just needed to be jumped. Whew....

I called Volvo today and they did not do a compression check. They said one was not needed.

I plan on checking my oil level for the a few weeks and scheduling a compression check soon.

Thank all for you quick replies! I was surprised at how fast I got answers to my question. Always good to have some expert opinions. Many thanks and watch out for potholes.

My insurance called today to check in to see if everything was ok. I asked if additional checks can be done to make sure there was not any other damage done to my car because of the pothole. Originally, I brought the car in for the low pressure light due to the pothole. Volvo wrote up an estimate for the hole in the oil pan. That why that's the only work they got the ok to work on.

Insurance gave me the ok to make another appointment for a supplemental claim and to send them the check. I'd like to see if any other damage was done from bottoming out in that pothole as well as do engine checks.

Can anyone help list out things for them to check?

1. Compression test
2. Worn bearings
3. Anything else related to checking a car if the engine was running without oil?
4. Other things close to the oil pan that could have been damaged from pothole?

Thank you

yes, the front suspension. If you hit a pothole deep enough to bottom out the oil pan you could have a bent control arm, tie rod and you shoul dhave the rim inspected.

Very true. Unless for some reason the skid plate was missing and you hit a pot hole and took off the cap with the oil filter.
