Thumbs up Looking to buy my first Volvo could use yall's help

Found a 1999 s70 w/ 218,000 miles on it for 1200 buck KBB says in fair its worth 1800. It currently is mis-firing and check engine light is on. I have not driven this car yet. Was planning on taking it out and getting the codes read. This is a non-turbo model and is going to my 16yr old niece. I guess my question is, Is this car gonna go for a while or is it going to be nothing but trouble having as many miles as it has? It does not have the service records so I do not know if any of the recalls were done on it. I looked at the buyers guides and none of those really helped. Anyone have any specific things I should look at under the hood and under the suspension. I really dont want to buy a piece o' crap and loose money in the end. This is to replace the jeep she just wrecked to cheap cars are good in my opinion. Thanks for yall's help

Misfire could be simple tuneup or head issues. I'd keep looking due to high miles, lack of maintenance records and current conditions. Owners dump cars not running right once there are 3 significant (real or imagined) issues with it. This one probably has 3 real issues: misfire, timing belt service due, and one other unnamed issue.

The miles are not the issue, it's the lack of maintenance or repairs. This could have a bad throttle system, bad valve, or who knows what.

These cars are great but need a lot of work if they haven't been properly maintained.

If they drove around on that seat/armrest I cant see them maintaining the car mechanically.

Well its pretty cleaned car. I don't think you should miss this car. Because its good one as the condition shows in pictures. But check the engine at your own. Condition wise this is a good car in that price. Wish you best of luck...
