Low Coolant Cause BAD Miles Per Gallon?
Is it possible that having low coolant levels could cause bad MPG?
I was getting around 20.5 to 21.3 MPG about two weeks ago. Now since I had my coolant flushed and replaced because I was getting some weird engine temp reading (Meaning very low readings even after 30 minutes of driving) I am getting around 17.5 to 18.0 MPG.
Just wondering if it is even possible that this could be related to each other.
Thanks

Try changing the thermostat. If the thermostat isn't closing all the way, the engine could be overcooling, even a little bit, and that may prevent the computer from ever entering closed- loop mode, which would account for the increased fuel consumption. I've seen plenty of thermostats fail after a coolant change.
