Mile per gallon 740 td turbodiesel wagon?
What is the appr. MPG of a Volvo 740 wagon turbodiesel? YEAR: 1985. Tranny zf22 automatic.
TURBODIESEL d24t engine in average condition?
What is your experiences? MILE PER GALLON issues?
Also, how is the tranny ZF22? This automatic tranny scares me a bit.

EPA rated 21 city, 24 highway, 23 combined.

Of course, your actual MPG will vary greatly depending on the condition of your car, your road conditions, and especially your driving style.
ETA: The manual is rated 22 city, 28 highway, 24 combined.

The car is old, so you can check air flow meter. You can take it off and clean up with some brush.

I like MODERN diesels (afte1996) like TDI, blueTec, etc but these mid eighties VW 6 cyls motors have very little going for them, if anything. Even their economy ratings are bad when compared with the B230F. Add to that the extra expense of diesel repair costs, scarcity of fuel, price which is often higher for diesel, and mainly, something that many don't know, these diesels are huge polluters to the point of being practically outlawed in Germany, (owners have to pay much higher taxes and they cannot be driven in the center of cities unless retrofitted with particle sooth filters).

How much is it to swap an automatic zf22 with a m46 manual 4-plus-overdrive tranny if all the parts are ready and there?
Labor in time---- professionals must know about an approximate estimate
(how many hours of work?)
Cost in parts---pros or regular volvolovers who had done it before
(how much is a m46 tranny? pedals approximately---or all the parts needed)
The biggest question: WHO will do it for me and when? let me know your ideas.
Oh btw what other parts are useful/handy/suggested to be replaced at the time when the tranny is out?
